Installation Tutorial

This tutorial will walk you through installing the TAC Life Support mod and setting everything up so that it is ready to use.

Important!

Make sure you backup your save before installing this mod. I take no responsibility for anything that might go wrong. This mod intentionally kills Kerbals. Be aware.
Requires Module Manager from sarbian, originally created by ialdabaoth. Requires Community Resource Pack by RoverDude. Both of these are included in the distribution Zip file.

1. Find the directory where you installed Kerbal Space Program, which I will call {KSP}.

2. Backup the {KSP}/saves directory by copying it somewhere that you can get the files in case something messes up your saves.

3. If you are upgrading from a previous version, delete all directories that start with {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport, including:
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportContainers
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportHexCans
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportMFT
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportRecyclers
   etc. Also Delete [KSP]/GameData/REPOSoftTech/BackgroundResources folder (only this folder).

4. Download the latest release. The file should be named TacLifeSupport_{version}.zip where {version} is the version number, like TacLifeSupport_0.8.0.4.zip.

5. Extract the zip file that you downloaded in step 4 either: (a) directly into the {KSP} directory, or (b) to some other directory and copy the GameData directory from there to your {KSP} directory.
   When you are done, you should have the following directories:
   [KSP]/GameData/REPOsoftTech/BackgroundResources
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportContainers
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportHexCans
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportMFT
   {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupportRecyclers

and the TacLifeSupport.dll should be in the {KSP}/GameData/ThunderAerospace/TacLifeSupport/Plugins directory.

6. Run Kerbal Space Program.

7. A difficulty settings window is available for a new game via the in-game Difficulty Settings button. This is where you can disable the mod for that particular save, or you can disable crew respawn so that Kerbals that die stay dead. These settings can be changed in-game by selecting "Settings" - "Difficulty" from the in-game Pause Menu at the Space Center.
