I'm not sure why VSCode is listed to be installed in the docs. Personally I think we should remove this because there are lots of ways to run the code, not just VSCode

This was largely a historical choice because people wanted to know how to set up a development environment (who had little to no experience of using Python).

Perhaps we should have a contributing.md document and contain this information in there.
