Filter Displacement Mapping
Displace the pixels of any Source or Scene with a displacement Normal Map! Create fancy distortion effects like you've seen in video games and movies, with little to no effort. Requires a specially crafted Normal Map as well as careful tuning to achieve the wanted effect. An explanation of how it works and what its future beholds can be found in this comment on issue #253

This feature was replaced by Shaders, which are more optimal for simple purposes like this. Users are urged to migrate to the Shader filter with the displace.effect
example filter shader immediately, as no further updates or patches are provided for this feature. It may eventually simply cease to exist entirely.
