Online data sources
This is a list of online data resources that we may consider adding to GenGIS.
Although we will probably start with one or two prototype examples (say, CABIN, EMP, and/or GBIF), we will ultimately want to unify the data model and the query interface to the greatest extent possible.
CABIN Database of biodiversity samples from wadeable streams, collected according to a standardized methodology and subjected to QA/QC before entry. These are target data for the GenGIS Atlantic RCA plugin.
Needs login and password, users will need to provide credentials prior to retrieval of (protected? any?) data
GBIF Online resource containing ~400,000,000 digitized records. Data available through a RESTful Web service (see http://data.gbif.org/tutorial/services
Rob has some Python code written to retrieve all records within a given geographic range, for a given taxonomic group of arbitrary rank. This can serve as the prototype for GBIF data retrieval.
QIIME/EMP Database Database containing over 15,000 samples from the Earth Microbiome Project. Metadata can be collected through the website, PhyloSeq is able to do this example
Atlas of Living Australia Digital repository of Australian biodiversity information. Really nice online tools, Web service here.
Canadensys Canadian digital biodiversity resource.
Treebase Phylogenetic tree repository. Public API in the works?
