Installation
The most recent releases of Amber will be accessible through this page: https://github.com/berkmancenter/amber_wordpress/releases
To install Amber, download the source code of the most recent release. Unzip (or otherwise decompress) the file. Inside the file "amber_wordpress-master" there is another file named "amber." Re-compress the file named "amber". The source code should now be "amber.zip".
In the Wordpress CMS, navigate Plugins -> Add New in the Administrator dashboard and click the "Add New" button. Follow the link to the page where you can upload a plugin in .zip format. Browse to the "amber.zip" file that you renamed and re-archived. Click "Install Now."
Then, navigate back to the "Plugins" page, scroll down to "Amber," and select the "Activate" link next to the module name to make sure that Amber is enabled. The "Tools -> Amber Dashboard" and "Settings -> Amber Settings" options should now be available, and the module will be running in the background.
Because Amber is not yet in the WordPress Plugin Directory, you can only upgrade to the most recent release directly via the WordPress file system:
- Deactivate the Amber plugin using the WordPress control panel (Plugins > Installed Plugins).
- Download the most recent release from https://github.com/berkmancenter/amber_wordpress/archive/master.zip. Unzip (or otherwise decompress) the file.
- Copy the new files into the wp-content/plugins/amber directory, overwriting the existing files.
- Activate the plugin using the WordPress control panel (Plugins > Installed Plugins).
You can access the WordPress file system by using an FTP/SFTP client or the file manager provided in your hosting service's control panel. Refer to the WordPress FTP Client documentation for more information.
To disable Amber's functionality temporarily, you can visit Plugins and click the "Deactivate" link next to the name of the Amber plugin. This will prevent Amber from checking and capturing any new links, but will not delete any of the associated files with Amber.
To disable Amber's functionality fully, you can visit Plugins, mark the checkbox next to the Amber plugin, select "Delete" from the "Bulk Actions" menu, and click "Apply Changes". This will delete the plugin and all of the associated files with Amber (including all previously captured sites).
