Currently there is a deprecation warning in the GUI (global & profile specific) about EncFS removal.

Currently BIT is at version 1.5.x. The warning need to be more intense and strong and giving more details. Not sure when we should do this. Upcoming release or 2nd release from now.

EDIT: IMHO the goal for a more intense warning should be 1.6.0, which is planed until the end of this year.

  • Warn about disabled EncFS.
  • Warn about removal of EncFS.
  • Add those warnings also to the CLI and maybe into the syslog.
  • Give more precise information about the time frame when this might happen. Disabling EncFS depends on the next Debian release (13) and will happen after it. It's Hard Freeze is scheduled for 15th May 2025 and its release some weeks after that. So this warning Issue is need to get included in Debian 13.
  • Inform about ongoing replacement with GoCryptFS.

# Summary
This is a release candidate. Please report if you use it even if there are no new problems.

This version is set to be released with Debian 13 (Trixie) this early summer and will remain available for the long lifetime of that Debian version.
EncFS, used for encrypted profiles, has been marked as deprecated and is schedule for removal in 2026. The Smart & Auto remove GUI has been reorganized and renamed into "Remove & Retention", with improvements to the user manual section. Its behavior remains unchange. An offset minute can now be configured for hourly schedule options. Some config file fields have been moved to a newly introduced state file. License and copyright information is now provided in machine-readable SPDX format, following the REUSE standard.
