The official electron/asar package supports newer features, such as security features like asar integrity and symlink verification. The "legacy" version of electron-builder's asar assembly also writes files that are symlinked outside of the project directory, which per electronHQ devs should not be allowed (and also will throw an error in the latest
electron/asarnpm version), so I've replicated that logic here to throw an error for relative symlinks outside project dir.
