Public Transport Tracker (PT Tracker)

Project title: 'Real-time tracking of Melbourne's public transport network using web-technologies on a mobile device'

Project description: the general purpose of this project is to explore the benefits and detriments of using a cross-platform development environment and typical sensors found on most modern mobile devices, in large-scale tracking of vehicles on a predetermined path. Melbourne's public transport network is a good candidate for investigation since it stretches over several kilometers and is known to have predefined travel paths. Furthermore, web-technologies (including HTML5) have recently seen significant support from multiple mobile device platforms. With the help of frameworks that enable native mobile application development using web-technologies, it is possible to investigate large-scale tracking using everyday smartphones.
