This PR collects the fixes from NOIRLAB IRAF for the generic tool. For reference, these were the original commits:
521776c - initialize forlevel not really needed (global C variables are always zeroed), but "explicit is better than implicit"
c2275a7 - added test filenot applied; the test file is just a copy ofsys/vops/aabs.gx.8e7e318 - bug fixes and cleanupnot applied; already fixed in a different way (removingchario.c)3adbf0a - fixed unused argnot applied; this is a no-op
