Installing reFocus

Stable version

reFocus is available for download on Kodi's official repository. Please refer to this page for instructions.

Development versions

Preview Releases are compiled preview releases or release candidates of new reFocus versions. They are made available on reFocus' own repository in preparation of launching a final version on Kodi's official repository.

Go here to install this repository in Kodi.

Snapshot builds are generated by Github and contain the most recent changes at the time of downloading. These should be considered unstable for daily usage as they are more likely to contain bugs or broken functionality.

After you have downloaded this zip file, please refer to this guide to learn how to install the skin in Kodi.

Or you can use a Git client to checkout and make sure the skin.refocus folder resides in the add-ons folder of your Kodi profile.

Add-ons

Required add-ons

To get the most out of reFocus the following add-ons are required. These add-ons should be installed automatically when you install the skin. If they are not, please install manually using the links below. Certain skin features will not be available if one or more of these add-ons are not installed on your system.

Supported Add-ons

The following add-ons are not required but the skin does have support built-in. You will need to install these manually through Kodi's Add-on Browser.

Translations

If you want to contribute by translating reFocus into your language(s), you are more than welcome to join a language team or create a new one. More information can be found here

A big thanks to all the people providing translations for reFocus!

FAQ

When installing, I get an error message saying "dependencies not met"

The cause for this is always one or more of the required add-ons not being installed on your system, or you're using a different (outdated) version of one or more of these add-ons. Make sure your add-ons are all updated. In Kodi's add-on browser bring up the context menu and select "force refresh". Wait for the system to search for and install add-on updates. Try installing the skin again after this. If the problem still persists double check by opening the addon.xml file in the skin.refocus folder. In between the "requires" tags all the required add-ons are listed. Check whether all of the correct versions of these add-ons are installed. If you are completely sure you have the correct ones, post a debug log on the forum. Do not open an issue on Github for this please.

I only see unwatched status indicators. Is there an option to display watched status indicators as well?

No, there isn't and there never will be. There is an indicator if the item is unwatched or when it's partly watched. If there is no indicator, the item is not watched. I find this obvious and logical, and thus feel there is no added value in placing an indicator on files that have been watched.

If you are reading a book, you place a bookmark where you stopped reading. You don't put a bookmark on every page you've read so far.

Can you make the home menu more like the old reFocus?

No, the menu system is totally different. Not only the underlying code, but also in the way it works. I could give you a long list of reasons why the new menu has higher usability, fits in better with the rest of the skin and is overall a much better design. But if you cannot get used to the new menu I suggest you simply move on.

Can the skin be made more transparent to see more of the fanart?

Yes it can, but no it won't be. Make it an option!? Still no.

Will you add discarts ?

No, I find them incredibly tacky. Presenting digital media as physical media is just silly.

Make it an option!? Still no.

Can you add feature X or Y?

Maybe. But don't get mad when I don't. As much as I hope people will enjoy using it, development is also driven by my own preferences. Also, please note that "because other skins have this feature too" is not a good reason for me to add it to reFocus.

But if you don't want the features, why can't you just make it optional.

'just make it an option' is just short for 'i can't make design decisions' and it pollutes the UI and focus of the skin. reFocus is not and will never be a swiss army knife type of skin. Apart from that, I just have no motivation to add features I wouldn't ever use myself.

Donations

Even though I enjoy working on reFocus greatly, thousands of hours have gone into it's continued development over the years.

If you enjoy using my skin for Kodi and would like to buy me a beer to show your appreciation, it is appreciated greatly.
