A few things to try:

• I haven't exported open_url. Use GoogleCharts.open_url instead
• try it first without a path, as in test.html. This should work:

chart = plot(sin, 0, 2pi);
fname = "test.html"
render(fname, chart)
GoogleCharts.open_url(fname)

• Second, try with a path. I think you need the file:/// bit in specifying your path.

Okay, I'm guessing I had some local changes that caused this. I just pushed changes to METADATA. Try pkg.update() and then giving it a go again.

This is because the plot function only samples 250 regularly spaced points
over the domain. You will see some oddities. Try this to see:

plot(sin, 0, 249pi)

Look at the maximum values which all should be 0, but aren't due to
rounding. This is a bit better, but still has issues:

plot(sinpi, 0, 249) |> render

If you wanted to plot such oscillatory functions you are going to have a
problem at some point, as there are only so many pixels to go around. But
you could get farther than this by mimicking the plot commands in the
plot interface:

n = 1000 ## not 250

xs = linspace(a, float(b), n)

ys = map(f, xs)

ys[ ys.== Inf] = NaN

d = DataFrame(x=xs,y=ys)

chart = line_chart(d, merge(args, [:curveType => "function"]), nothing,
nothing)

If you have the packages installed (or use juliabox) you can try this to
have some fun stepping through the values:
