I'm packaging dacite for the Arch User Repository and I'm running into the same issue. Would it be possible to again provide a source package on PyPI?

archlinux-github pushed a commit to archlinux/aur that referenced this issue Jul 16, 2023

Build from upstream source instead of PyPI wheel

For 1.8.1, the source package disappeared from PyPI and we fell back to
the PyPI wheel.  Packaging guidelines suggest to build from source
whenever possible, so let's do that.  Upstream has been asked to provide
a source package on PyPI [1].

For reference, it seems that that version is also missing from piwheels, which contains builts for ARM, for the same reason:

I created this issue on piwheels side to track it: piwheels/packages#377.
