Maps and Textures

We are planning for 3 texture sets and 3 maps:

  • One very compact, maybe even ridiculously so, extremely low resolution for very small downloads and startup times. This would be something we are sure can run even in the worst case. No water, no glare, no special effects at all, no mapmodels, etc. Should use a small amount of fairly low-res textures.
  • Update: This is the Arena map.
  • One small to medium map, on the low end of Sauerbraten maps. This is what we hope will run well. Can use water (performance looks good in recent tests), but not high-end effects like reflections or glare. Perhaps some small mapmodels. Should try to minimize the number of textures where possible, for faster downloading.
  • Update: This is the Two Towers map.
  • One normal-sized map with high-end features including water reflect/refraction, glare, etc., mapmodels, etc. This might not run well right now, but will be a target for browsers to optimize for. It should run well in a native non-web build, and give the browser people something to optimize for.
  • Update: This is the Lava Chamber map.
