Brief Summary

Heads up: nearcore 1.20.0 on mainnet was released! (2021-07-26)

In the last two weeks Node Interfaces team was focused on paving the road for wider adoption of NEAR protocol through better integrations:

• NEAR-RPC-as-a-Service discussion has been initiated
• New NEAR CLI proposal is finalized and near-cli-rs will serve as the baseline for the future official CLI! 🎉

• nearcore:

  • nearcore 1.20.0 on mainnet was released! (2021-07-26)

  • Finalized the strictly typed AccountId's PR, merged!! 🔐 (@miraclx)

  • Slimmed down near-jsonrpc-primitives dependencies (first step towards near-api-rs, stay tuned!) (@miraclx)
    refactor(chain): expunge rocksdb from near-jsonrpc-primitives dependency tree #4651
  • Identified problematic vestigial code regarding benchmarks from previous refactor (refactor: centralize&improve infrastructure for building test contracts #4160) that led to pruning unused, stale code refactor: drop obsolete contract runtime benchmarks #4571 (@miraclx @matklad 👍)
  • Added set -eux to nearcore CI pipeline to have better visibility when debugging (@chefsale)

  • Fixed master versioning of the neard --version command to display "trunk" instead of "1.2.0" (@chefsale)
    cleanup(version): move master version to 0.0.0 instead of 1.2.0 #4579
  • synced with mina86 on how to improve nayduck, implement monitoring and migrate it from Azure to GCP (@chefsale)
  • deleted unused prometheus nayduck code (@chefsale)
    cleanup(tests): the create_prometheus_targets.py is obsolete and unused #4576

• rpc-as-a-service

  • Initiated the discussion of building RPC-as-a-Service product out of our infrastructure (@chefsale)

• operations

  • Split internal and public RPC nodes on mainnet (@mhalambek)
  • Investigated the incident with light_client_proof RPC calls (@mhalambek @chefsale) which lead up to the fix released by @bowenwang1996 and @mfornet 💪

  • On-boarded new engineers to the on-call processes 💪 (@chefsale)

• indexer-for-explorer:

  • Speed up the query to get an ordered list of transactions (@telezhnaya)
    feat: introduced an index on transactions to speed up sorting by block_timestamp and index_in_chunk near-indexer-for-explorer#139
  • Drafted calculating historical circulating supply and storing it in indexer DB (@telezhnaya)

  • Collected the requirements for FT/NFT data preparation for Wallet integration (@telezhnaya)

  • Supported partners in 1.20.0 nearcore release (@khorolets)

  • Drafted a PR that merge Validators, Proposals and Staking Pools into a single tab (@shelegdmitriy)

  • Implemented API endpoints to view fees for previous day and last 7 days (@shelegdmitriy)

• account-lookup

  • One more iteration of fixing account lookup tool: now it has the closest logic to core_contracts Rust implementation (@telezhnaya)
    Rewrite the logic of calculating liquid tokens by using implementation from core-contracts account-lookup#10

• near-api-js

  • fixed a broken/obsolete test in near-api-js after versioning fix in nearcore
    bug(test): remove old versioning which is unused in nearcore nodes near-api-js#652

• core-contracts:

  • Made small improvement of the doc in lockup contract (@telezhnaya)
    doc(lockup): add examples how to create contract core-contracts#180

Challenges & Blockers

• We invite everyone to discuss collection and representation of NFT / FT on the Indexer for Explorer (database) and Explorer (UI/UX) sides:

• indexer-for-explorer:

  • Create a separate table for FT/NFT to improve support on the wallet side (@telezhnaya)

• nearcore

  • Investigating core crates reused across the ecosystem (crypto, primitives, ..) to identify and prune heavy dependencies, extract some into specialized crates and finally, having them lightweight enough for publishing. (@miraclx)
    • So far, we're introducing -primitives counterpart crates for near-chunks and near-network extracting reusable structures without having to pull dependencies required for logic in the main crates.
    • To avoid this being a single huge PR like the former ones, this one would land in a series of pull requests. Starting from a first pass on chain/jsonrpc-primitives.
  • Engineer providers for the new near-api-rs crate (blocked on near-jsonrpc-primitives) (@miraclx)
