What is Linux? (Linux history)

Linux is an operating system, like Windows and Mac OS. Linux is actually a bit newer than MS DOS and Macintosh, as it first appeared in 1991. Linus Torvalds, a Finnish student created the Linux kernel originally as a hobby.
