Probably related to previously encounted JS errors in #192 Instead of the correct number next to the map, I see

0 events registered

It's always 0. Tracked it down to
https://github.com/okfn/opendataday/blob/master/assets/js/map.js#L47

If you read the data before creating a map object (since it's webgl and doesn't work in all cases), then it could at least show the current number of registered events.

And in #247 I suggested that the whole widget is hidden until we have some data in the first place.
