How do I remove a Payment method from github ?

Hi, please try the below

In the "Access" section of the sidebar,

click Billing and plans.

At the top of the page, under "Payment information",

click Update payment method.

If your account has existing billing information that you want to update, click Edit.

Under "Billing information", complete the form,

then click Save.

Obviously, they have no intention of providing a means to delete/remove payment methods.
Having worked for large corporations such as microsoft in the past, I know why they engineer their system this way though I'm rather disgusted by it. Ethics are completely remiss in large companies.

This is a data privacy issue so I suggest a couple options to fellow users:

If you live in a state or country that has consumer privacy laws, submit a data removal request to microsoft here:

If you live in a state that doesn't yet have consumer privacy laws, submit a complaint through your state consumer advocacy department. There's often a link on your state web site.

It is very simple to delete a payment method (if you used your credit card)
just block it, then try to sponsor anything. Your bank will obviously decline it, so github automatically removes it.
Then you can unblock your card and continue the use of it as normal.

For PayPal, you can revoke access for GitHub, that means GitHub still stores the PayPal payment method, but has no permission at all to actually make transactions with that. Once you need to use that PayPal again you just need to attach it again to your GitHub, so PayPal will provide GitHub a new permission token.

Meanwhile credit card would disappear, PayPal remains displayed. Kinda weird and very unpleasant to have it implemented like that from Microsoft... I hate it. Everytime I use my card at ANY websites I immedieatly search for the option to delete it.

Same here guys. It's just so so annoying. I don't want to purchase any further services. I already got charged for github co-pilot after my free trial ended, because apparently, I couldn't cancel the subscription on time, since I was getting a server error on github billing & plans page. Later, got caught up in work and forgot that I had to remove it. Tried many times again last night, and encountered the same error. Finally got it removed but now I can't get rid of the billing info. I don't wanna get charged for any other services accidentally. But I'm stuck with this nonsense. I don't see a point in saving such sensitive info without the free will of a user.

If any of the GitHub representatives are seeing this, please take this as constructive criticism and look into this issue, because it's just unethical and not worth the hustle.

It seems that restoring the paypal account might even be harder. They blocked my old one because it was linked to a sanctioned location, and to register a new one they require residence ID from non-sanctioned countries that I don't have...

Wow, all i did was make a one time sponsorship.
Github saved my credit card and there was no way to delete the card.

Contact the support and they help me refund and remove the payment method. It seems that for now, you have to connect to them to remove it instead of by yourself.

Setting ->Billing and plans ->Plans and usage , you can find Add-ons in this page, than you can find GitHub Copilot, click manager subscription than you will find the red color Cancel button ,click the Cancal button,you will delete it!

Click Billing & Plans in the left-hand menu.
Scroll down to the Payment Information section.
If there’s no option to delete the payment method, it might be because it's tied to an active subscription. In that case, you'll need to:

Cancel any active subscriptions linked to the payment method first.
Contact GitHub Support for help removing it. You can do that by visiting GitHub Support or clicking the support link in your billing settings.
They'll be able to assist you with removing the payment method if you can't do it yourself.

In your case, you paid for GitHub Copilot and then canceled the subscription. However, the main issue in this thread is how to completely delete your payment details from your GitHub account.

When you go to Billing Information, remove any addons, actions or any other subscriptions that you have. Then navigate down to Payment Information:
