Audio

Software Tools:

  • Puget Sound and Vision Audio Workflow Scripts. Tools for streamlining audio workflows. These tools take a WAV file and create an archival package with BWF metadata and the optional documentation of original item container.
  • audiorecorder An archivally focused open source tool for analog audio calibration and digitization currently under development by pugetsoundandvision members.
  • Audacity A free, open source DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for recording and editing of audio.
  • XLD CD Ripping and Audio Conversion Software Supports error free ripping of audio cds as well as conversion between a variety of lossless audio formats. Setup instructions for CD ripping can be found here.
  • Exact Audio Copy CD Ripping Another program that supports error free ripping of audio cds. For Microsoft Windows.
  • CDDA2WAV Linux CLI that incorporated CD Paranoia library.

Software Tools:

  • MediaInfo An essential tool for viewing extensive metadata of A/V files. Available in GUI and CLI form.
  • Minimum Viable Station Recipies Instructions for equipment to set up an A/V digitization station at a range of price points.
  • ffmprovisr A tool that provides annotated examples for a variety of FFMPEG commands to accomplish common A/V preservation tasks! I very good starting point for people trying to understand FFMPEG. Created at AMIA Hack Day.
  • The Cable Bible A comprehensive guide to cables you might encounter in A/V preservation. Maintained by MIAP's Ethan Gates.
