Wouldn't the correct solution require a version bump for getrandom, indicating a breaking change?

Hm, looks like you are right. With the compile_error! change it was a build issue, so releasing getrandom v0.2 would require releasing breaking releases for rand and rand_core, but this change will not leak to users not dependent to getrandom directly.

As we are no longer pursuing rust-random/getrandom#95, this change no longer makes sense. @vks is right, if we introduce breaking changes, we will just release a 0.2 for getrandom (and then update rand accordingly).
