using patterns as xy pad controllers

scanner-darkly edited this page Nov 5, 2018 · 1 revision

any pattern can be used as an x/y pad controller (kaoss pad style):

  1. select an empty pattern
  2. open voices page (left bottom button)
  3. select an unused voice and assign it to the pattern (2nd column from the left)
  4. select the same voice in the sources column (7th column from the left)

you can assign x/y to any CV output on the module, er-301 or telexo:

  1. select "x" parameter (6th column from the left, 3rd button from the top) or:
  2. select "y" parameter (6th column from the left, 4th button from the top)
  3. select a module CV output (8th column from the right) or:
  4. select an er-301 output (7th column from the right) or:
  5. select a telexo output (4th column from the right)
  6. you can assign it to any combination of the above

values will be scaled automatically to cover 0..10V range.

you can also use it to control any output parameters available in polyearthsea:

  1. select "x" parameter (6th column from the left, 3rd button from the top)
  2. assign it to any free mod bus (3rd column from the right)
  3. select "y" parameter (6th column from the left, 4th button from the top)
  4. assign it to any other free mod bus (3rd column from the right)
  5. open outputs page (left bottom button, press, hold and then press the one above)
  6. select device in the 2nd column from the right
  7. select parameter in the 3rd column from the right
  8. if you forget which device/parameter is selected press the blinking help button
  9. select a range for any parameter you want to modulate
  10. select the mod bus you assigned in step 2 or 4, press, hold and then press on the parameter range

this will link the mod bus to that parameter. now any time you press somewhere on the keyboard it will send the updated x/y values to the mod bus, which in turn will modulate the linked parameter (it will scale it to the selected range automatically).

  • you can also use "key" parameter instead of x or y
  • it can be interesting to record a note sequence and then use the same voice to modulate the outputs mapped to that voice - especially if you transpose the sequence with arp
  • since it's still a regular voice and pattern you can record your modulation just as you would record a sequence. and you can apply runes to your mod sequence!
