You'll need node.js and npm installed first and of course git. Keep node.js to version 10 (or 11 at most) because the current version of Gulp is not compatible with the latest version of node.js
Global dependencies that you'll need for command line. You'll need to preface with sudo on Linux.

Hugo is not a nodejs (javascript) package it needs to be installed (to the commandline). It is written in GO, but Hugo developers maintain binaries for all platforms so it's easy to install. https://gohugo.io/
Latest version of v0.74: https://github.com/gohugoio/hugo/releases/tag/v0.74.3
Note that the site is not compatible with the latest versions of Hugo.
