You can easily translate Desktop Folder via Transifex. We recommend this for most users.

Manually translating or preparing the .pot file

Manual instructions

Preparation

First, please follow the instructions on Building and Running up until the part which says to come back to this page.

Once you've done that, in the build directory, generate a pot file with:

$ ninja com.github.spheras.desktopfolder-pot

Translating

Next, we're going to install a translating GUI.

Installing Poedit

Poedit is a GUI that makes it easy to translate pot files.

sudo apt install poedit

Using

Once you install it, launch it from Applications, then follow the instructions on the welcome screen (the pot and po files are in the po/ folder).
