1.1 Using this JSON file on iOS devices

TypographyNerd edited this page Apr 26, 2020 · 1 revision

The instructions of how to use this JSON file described on the front page assume you are using a browser on a desktop/laptop computer. Since many use IITC-Mobile, here are instructions on how you can easily get the updated JSON file to keep your map up to date. While there may be many ways to do this, using a Git app is the most straightforward. Instructions on how to set this up are detailed below.

Since I do not have an Android device, I cannot help with that. If anyone has worked this out, let me know!

The Steps in Brief

  1. Install Working Copy (the Git app) from the App Store
  2. Clone this repository
  3. Import JSON file into IITC-Mobile
  4. Periodically pull the repository for updates and import new file into IITC-Mobile

Install Working Copy

Working Copy is an app that can connect to GitHub and copy the files to your device. While there is a paid option for the app, you can do everything you need to do with the free version.

  1. Install Working Copy from the App Store here.

Clone the repository

This initial setup of Working Copy you will only need to do once.

  1. Open Working Copy
  2. Click on + in upper right corner
  3. Tap on Clone repository
  4. Tap on URL tab
  5. Type in https://github.com/typographynerd/ygk-iitc-map.git in the box at the top and tap on Clone in the upper right corner. You will now have a copy of this JSON file on your device. You will be able to easily get updates to the file by pulling updates from the repository. (see below)

Import JSON file into IITC-Mobile

(This assumes that you have installed the PoGo Tools user script already)

  1. Open IITC-Mobile
  2. Tap on tap here for info screen in bottom right corner
  3. Tap on PoGo Actions
  4. Tap on Import Gyms & Pokestops
  5. Tap on Browse on bottom right
  6. Tap on More Locations and ensure that Working Copy is turned on, then tap Done.
  7. Tap on Working Copy, tap the ygk-iitc-map folder and then tap IITC-pogo.json file. Your file should be imported and you should see it say Successful. Tap OK and then Back at upper left of the screen. The gyms and stops should now be marked!

Periodically Update your Map

With your new setup, this is now easy.

  1. Open Working Copy and pull the repository. If it says Pull received nothing that means there has been no changes since your last update.
  2. Open IITC-Mobile and tap on tap here for info screen in bottom right corner.
  3. Tap on PoGo Actions and then tap on Reset PoGo portals. It is a good idea to delete the previous file and then import the new one.
  4. Navigate to the file as you did above, in necessary. It usually remembers where you got the file the last time so you will probably be in the right folder.
