seNorge_2018
seNorge_2018 is a collection of observational gridded datasets over Norway for: daily total precipitation; daily mean, maximum and minimum temperatures. The tag "2018" indicates that the statistical models used for spatial analysis (and the corresponding code) has been developed in 2018.
The data sources are: the Norwegian Meteorological Institute’s Climate Database, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute Open Data API, the Finnish Meteorological Institute open data API. In addition, the daily data provided by the European Climate Assessment & Dataset project (https://www.ecad.eu, we acknowledge the data providers in the ECA&D project. Klein Tank, A.M.G. and Coauthors, 2002. Daily dataset of 20th-century surface air temperature and precipitation series for the European Climate Assessment. Int. J. of Climatol.,22, 1441-1453).
The data are presented on a high-resolution terrain-following grid with 1 km spacing. The coordinate reference system is Universal Transverse Mercator, zone 33.
The time period covered by the datasets begins the 1st of January 1957 (1957-01-01) and continues to the present day. seNorge_2018 datasets is divided into two archives: an historical archive and an operational archive. The historical archive includes data from 1957-01-01 to a date in the recent past. The historical archive is re-built periodically. When a new version of the archive is created, new DOIs are assigned to the corresponding datasets. The operational archive is updated every day based on the data of the last few days.
There are two dissemination channels. The historical archives are made available through Zenodo. The continuous time series of gridded datasets resulting from the merging of the most recent version of the historical archive and the operational archive are made available through MET Norway's THREDDS Data Server.
The versions of the historical archive published so far are:
- version 23.09 (September 2023). For precipitation (RR), we have released version 23.11 (November 2023) that fixes an issue of daily total precipitation. NOTE: the dataset version is version 23.09 and only for precipitation the correct version to use is the RR version 23.11.
- version 22.09 (September 2022)
- version 21.09 (September 2021) & version 21.10 (October 2021). Ver. 21.10 fixes an issue of ver. 21.09 daily minimum and maximum temperatures.
- version 20.05 (May 2020)
- version 18.12 (Dec 2018)
The methods used and the dataset version 18.12 are described in the paper:

and version 20.05 is described in the report:
