The setup.py does not support linux installations, and this makes both packaging and direct installations cumbersome. Users cannot just install the package using pypi, and packagers faces a non-standard python3 package where the standard toolschains does not apply "out of the box".
The obvious solution is to add linux support to setup.py - this fixes all these problems, and probably some more.
