Overview with meta-issues for second milestone version

The following are an overview of improvements to be implemented in the second milestone version of itwêwina:
(EDITED - moved a number of issues/features to third release, so this list represents the complete set of current priorities)

• 1. Recordings

  • Show all recordings pertinent to a dictionary entry, exhibiting speaker/community information (Present multiple recordings from multiple speakers #347)
  • implement links to speaker pages (Implement links from recordings to speakers (individually and collectively) from itwêwina #259)
  • make recordings available on search results page (Add recording link to the search page #404)
  • Improve presentation of multiple recordings and links to speaker pages, taking inspiration from UX design (Improve presentation of multiple recordings #422, Recording not played automatically, when selected from the dropdown menu #541 moved to third milestone)

• 2. Backend updating and refactoring

  • Implement simple, automated processes for updating (Create straight-forward processes for updating dictionary FSTs and DB sources #325) both FSTs (Create a simple process for updating crk FST into itwêwina #257) and dictionary DB (Create a simple process for updating itwêwina dictionary content #258) in itwêwina, when these are revised, and do away with engcrk.xml (Discontinue use of engcrk.xml #385) [Maybe DB/XML updating Create a simple process for updating itwêwina dictionary content #258 will become automated in 2nd milestone, and FST updating Create a simple process for updating crk FST into itwêwina #257 in 3rd milestone?]
  • Make the generation of paradigms more effective (JIT instead of AOT: Discontinue AOT paradigm generation in favour of JIT paradigm generation #389).
  • Separate language-specific from language-agnostic code. (morphodict: Refactor into two apps: a language-specific app and a language-agnostic app #463) [this can be continued in the 3rd milestone]

• 3. Paradigms and inflection information

  • Systematize presentation of (inflected) word-form and dictionary entry head word information (Systematize presentation of additional info for (inflected) word form and dictionary entry #399)
  • Show inflectional categories (Presentation of Plains Cree declination/conjugation classes (i.e. NA[D]-[1-5], VTA-[1-5]) #101, Proposal: use emoji on search results page instead of general/specific word class #358, Display help text for inflectional category instead of word class #434).
  • Show morpheme boundaries (Show morphological breakdown structure (inflectional morpheme boundaries first) #397), as an option (Settings: implement toggling morpheme boundaries #398)
  • Improve relabeling (Improving the formatting of the linguistic analysis pop-up #266): with feature sequences (Relabel also feature sequences #348)
  • Improve relabeling: prefixal features (Prefix features should also end up on their own lines #373)
  • Improve relabeling: apply three-way options throughout, not only in paradigm layouts but also in the presentation of the linguistic analysis and of lexical information (Mockups for alternative relabelings #1047).
  • Improve relabeling: show the stem instead of the lemma (Stem should be imported into the Wordform model #235, Stem should be shown (instead of lemma) in linguistic analysis pop-up #475).
  • Improve paradigm presentation when cells/rows are missing. (Implement representation of paradigm cells for certain inflected forms that do not exist for a lemma #111, Diminutive layouts #169, Those II verbs that should get plural forms not getting them in the mobile basic layouts #194, Sketch how to present observed vs. unobserved forms vs. lacunae + morpheme boundaries + recordings #505)
  • Show in paradigms whether an inflected word-form has been observed or not. (Distinguish (inflected) word-forms seen in a corpus from computational-model-generated ones #455)
  • Improve presentation of paradigm cells with multiple word-forms (Split inflections with multiple possible forms over several lines #507).
  • Reorganize paradigm layouts as more intuitive to look up. (Reorganize paradigms into a more intuitive and easy to search order #131, Both column headings for the basic mobile layouts should have the same formatting (bold etc.) #193, Update verb layouts to match with revised FST #473, Update layouts (and paradigms) automatically #476)
  • Revise basic paradigms to match new representation of tense with preverb tags. (Revise paradigm and layout files for verbs to match marking of tense as preverb rather than suffix-feature #392)

• 4. Search

  • Update search ranking formula (Update various ranking sources and revise overall regression formula for crk search #1042)
  • Implement prefix search for Cree (Implement prefix search #133)/
  • Implement prefix search for English (Prefix search should work for English as well #142).

• 5. DIctionary source presentation and selection

  • Provide in tooltip full source data for acronyms, and links as well (CW, MD, and AE) (We need tooltips for source acronyms! #393)
  • Implement selection of dictionary source (any combination of CW vs. MD vs. AE) (Filter search results by user-selected dictionary sources #126).
  • Add first batch of AECD content (Add AECD to itwêwina sources #1102)

• Miscellaneous house-keeping

  • Implement full set of options (Implement settings menu/page for selecting interface/functionality options #708), incl. Provide auto:t and espt:t also as options #1090.

Various bugs at the tail end of the Current issues can be fixed as well, if the work gets stalled.

For all intents and purposes, the objectives of this 2nd milestone have been reached. Whatever improvements that we might want to pursue should be undertaken under the next, 3rd milestone.
