This button is found in the upper-right corner of the main window, next to Settings, and looks like this:
If a new version of AMV Tracker is available when you start the program, you will be alerted to the fact on startup. At that time you will be asked if you want to be taken to the download page, and you'll be given three options:
- Yes: Open the download webpage in your browser
- No: Bypass and start AMV Tracker as normal. You will be reminded of the new version again the next time you start AMV Tracker.
- No, and don't remind me again: Bypass and start AMV Tracker as normal. You will not receive any more notifications of the new version.
If you select the last one, the check for update will have a notification badge on it, and will look like this: You can click this button to bring up the dialog box again, so that you can click "Yes" and be taken to the download page. You can also use this button to manually check for a new version -- you will either see the new version dialog or a message that lets you know you are running the most current version of AMV Tracker.
At the bottom-left of the main window is a small text label letting you know which version you are running. It can be found here:
This can mainly be useful information for debugging purposes, but otherwise is probably entirely ignorable for the average user.
At the bottom-right of the main window is another small text label letting you know the file path for the current working database. It can be found here:
This can be very useful to know, especially if you are working with multiple database files and are regularly switching between them. It can also be helpful so that you always know where to find the current .db file, in case you ever want to make a manual backup.
Should AMV Tracker run into an internal error (meaning one that is not already handled and communicated to you via a warning dialog), the program will close and a pop-up will alert you that AMV Tracker has encountered an error. There will be a file called errors.log
generated in your AMV Tracker directory (or, if this has happened before, the existing file will be updated) that will show details of this error. You can copy and paste the error code into a post on the GitHub Issues page with a detailed description of what you were doing when this happened, to hopefully get it resolved.
In the many months I have been using and testing this program, I have never once had any data loss, so you shouldn't experience that either -- in most cases you should be able to open the program back up and keep using it without fear.
Also note: very occasionally AMV Tracker will just close without logging any errors or alerting you that there was a problem. In every instance where this has happened to me, it is after I have had AMV Tracker open for a long time (meaning days) without closing it. In those cases, just reopen the program and you should be good to go.
