troubleshooting
if you're not getting any sound or it looks like it's not running, check the following:
does grid work? does it display properly? can you switch between different pages?
if the answer is no, then you either didn't flash the firmware properly, or it's possible your case isn't providing enough power. remember that grid requires up to 600mA on +5V rail, especially when used with older modules! also, earlier revisions of teletype (with green PCB) might not be able to provide sufficient power - in this case use monome switch or two>one module to power grid externally, or check this thread for alternative solutions.
using with an i2c module?
if you're sequencing an i2c module, and the physical outputs on the module seem to be updated properly, you might have an issue with i2c configuration. if you have a way to check your i2c bus using something else, try that. if you use white whale / earthsea / meadowphysics / ansible module you will also need something to provide power and pullup resistors for the i2c bus - check i2c-setup for more details.
check if you selected your device on the i2c page: volume and other i2c parameters, the 4 buttons on the right. for er-301 you will also need to make sure you inserted SC.CV
and SC.TR
units appropriately (ports 1..8) and the i2c address is properly set.
using physical outputs?
check your patch - normally you want to connect CV outputs to 1V/Oct oscillator input, and connect gate outputs to your envelope gate input.
is the sequencer stopped?
there is a start/stop button on delays page. switch to the page by pressing on the 2nd button from the right in the top corner and make sure the button is brightly lit (toggle a couple of times to confirm).
are you clocking it externally?
if you clock it externally, check if your external clock is running.
is your scale empty?
switch to any parameters page and check the bottom 2 rows - they display the scales. the leftmost buttons choose which scale is selected. if the currently selected scale is empty, no notes will be produced. simply select some scale notes.
are voices muted?
check volume and other i2c parameters page and make sure voices aren't muted by pressing the mute buttons in the bottom row.
is sequence too short?
it's possible that when using extra short sequences (4 steps or less) with some combinations of parameters no notes will be produced. switch to the length parameter page (parameters) and try increasing the length, or try changing algo x and algo y parameters.
